Helping people find joy in Jesus.

You have put more joy in my heart than when their new grain and wine abound. / Psalm 4:7

Thanks for stopping by. We’re glad you’re here and we hope to see you at our weekend service soon. Our weekend worship service isn’t just something we attend or do. The church is not just a building or an event, we are a people; the body of Christ. The church is a community of believers; sinners saved by grace. We are a church full of imperfect people from all walks of life, who have found unending joy through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.

Calvary exists to help people find joy in Jesus. Our desire is to see all people come find true, lasting and satisfying joy in the person of Jesus Christ. We invite you to come visit and see what we’re all about and to join us in this mission.

And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

> Colossians 2:13 + 14

What is the Gospel?

The word gospel means good news, which is the good news of God’s grace invading the darkness of this world. The Bible is centered on Jesus and His flawless life, substitutionary death, and his glorious resurrection from the grave.

Jesus blamelessly took our place on the cross, laying down His life for our sins. Due to our sin and rebellion against Him, we all stand guilty before God and deserve His justice and wrath; however, the cross of Jesus stands as our only defense, which satisfies the demands and appeases the wrath of a Holy God. The ultimate tapestry of love is painted by Jesus as His amazing grace is revealed through the cross. There is no other name by which you can be saved nor is there any work of your own that could ever satisfy God the Father. Only through the perfect work of Jesus on the cross and His glorious resurrection from the grave can we find forgiveness, peace, and redemption.

This gospel is central, therefore we desire to keep the gospel central in all we do as the people of God.

Basic Beliefs

Scriptures

// The Scriptures consisting of the Old and New Testament are true, authoritative and sufficient.

Godhead

// There is only one true and living God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

// All things exist for the glory of God.

Humanity

// All humanity—Christ excluded—is sinful by both birth and action.

// The deserved penalty for sin is physical and spiritual death.

Jesus Christ

// Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, was born of a virgin and is both fully God and fully human.

// Jesus Christ died as the sacrificial substitute to pay the penalty for sin.

// Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and will one day physically return.

The Holy Spirit

// The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin and bears weight to the Truth.

// The Holy Spirit seals, guides, teaches, and sanctifies the believer.

// The Holy Spirit testifies concerning Jesus and never leads any person contrary to the teaching of the Scriptures.

Salvation

// There will be a future physical resurrection of the dead.

// Only those who turn from sin and to Jesus in faith and repentance will be raised to eternal reward.

// Those who do not turn from sin and to Jesus will be raised to eternal punishment.

// Only through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ and repentance from sin can one be reconciled to God and experience true life and joy.

Core Values

Worship

We were created to worship (Genesis 2:15) and saved to worship (John 4:21-24). In everything we do, our desire is to display the glory of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 10:31). Because Christ alone is worthy, we assemble as a church weekly to sing, pray, and listen to God (Revelation 4:11). We want our times of corporate worship to be the overflow of hearts that treasure Christ above all else (Colossians 1:15-20). We ask God to expose our feeble idols – the things we think will bring us significance, security and acceptance – and show us their worthlessness in light of the glory of Jesus (Psalm 115).

Discipleship

Jesus walked on this earth, calling men and women to follow Him (Matthew 4:18-20). He called them to let go of their lives, forsaking their own path to walk with Him (Matthew 8:18-22). Before He left, Jesus commissioned his disciples to take his good news and call men and women to walk away from worldly allegiances and join Him in spreading the good news to all nations by making disciples (Matthew 28:18-20). The mission of the church has always been to make and mature disciples (Acts 14:21-23). The church was designed by Jesus to be a community of disciples who walk with Him and are passionate to lead others to join Him (Romans 1:1-6).

Community

When God saves a person, He saves them into a community (Ephesians 2:11-12). He adopts them into a family of brothers and sisters (Ephesians 1:5). Relationships in this family are vital for the believer’s spiritual growth and development (Ephesians 4:11-16). Brothers and sisters spur one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24-25), protect each other from dangers both internal and external to the church, and bring counsel in times of suffering and difficulty (Galatians 6:1). Life outside of community is dangerous, unnecessary, and disobedient (1 John 3:11-24).

Mission

Jesus came on a mission “to seek and to save the lost.” (Luke 19:10); and once His mission was complete, He sent out His disciples with the same mission (John 20:21). Being ambassadors for Christ, they took His message of reconciliation into the kingdom of this world (2 Corinthians 5:14-21). We are to be ambassadors for Christ, proclaiming the good news of peace with God from our community and extend its reach to around the globe (Acts 1:8). There could have been a variety of ways to accomplish His mission, but Jesus chose His disciples to be His mouthpiece (Colossians 4:2-4).
